She told yahoo: “I’m glad it happened because as much as I want to be in the music industry, I want to do it in my own terms and be my own artist – that is really important to me.
“When you’re in the X Factor, the pressure to release your album within the year is incredible.
“There is no possible way that an 18-year-old can write an album that means anything to anybody in six months – there is just no way.
“So unless you are willing for other people to write for you, you are going to have a s**t album.
“Realistically it is unfeasible to come from not even being any type of musician to then having an album out in six months. I wasn’t ready, I didn’t know what direction I wanted to go in.
“Now I’m more ready, I think my album now is so much better than even if I’d gone through and released it when I was 19. It wouldn’t be as good as it was now.”
Gamu is currently gearing up for the release of her first single ‘Shake the Room,’ a Motown inspired track.
