Getting involved is simple: Choose your topic, write a 500-1500 word argument about it (don’t worry too much about language) and send it in.
There are at least 3 cash prizes up for grabs, based on 3 age categories. The following are the topics for each age category:
Young Writers Prize (born between 1999 and 2003, winner gets £50):
- Why do grown-ups read fairy tales?
- In the future, will children still use pencils?
- “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” by Albert Einstein. Do you agree? Why?
- Myths, legends and fantasies: why do we read them, why do we watch them?
- “To be or not to be…” Is that what school is about?
- “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” Attributed to WB Yeats. Do you agree? Why?
- If there was one thing you could change to improve education in your country, what would it be and why?
- In an era of tight public finances, should students be entitled to subsidised higher education no matter what they choose to study?
- “Those who can’t laugh at themselves leave the job to others.” (Anonymous quote.) Discuss.
