Lewis Hamilton Missed his Mercedes More than Ex-Missus

LEWIS HAMILTON admits he missed his Mercedes’ motor more than his ex-missus ahead of this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

SunSport told you how the F1 ace was heading to the recording studio to cure his blues following his split from singer and TV presenter Nicole Scherzinger.
Hamilton, 28, spent last week in LA recording tracks but insisted his crooning was not meant as an attempt to win back The Pussycat Dolls’ star.

He said: “I was not writing love songs, as some people have been suggesting, to win anyone back. It is just something I enjoy doing and something that I am actually really good at.
“The break after the German Grand Prix was too long. I just really missed being in the car. I have been really excited about getting back in the car.

“I had time to really think about how well the season has gone for me. Everyone was talking me down at the beginning of the year.

“So many things said about whether it was right or wrong decisions, whether it was a silly mistake, but the team and I have constantly proved everyone wrong, race after race. “We are second in the constructors’ championship and I feel privileged and grateful that I have been able to contribute to that.
“I would never have thought we would have been in such a competitive position -- still within shooting distance of both championships.”

After his week in the States, Hamilton jetted to the party island of Ibiza but did not hit the all-night disco bars.

Instead he spent the day on former F1 driver Gerhard Berger’s luxury yacht with Mercedes’ non-executive chairman, Niki Lauda.
And Hamilton, who was once accused of being “dangerous” by Lauda, says he has an excellent relationship with the outspoken Austrian.

He added: “It was just a general meeting. Niki is always asking me how he can help. He asks me about the weaknesses in the team and where it can be improved on.

“You definitely would not have thought that I would have a good relationship with Niki 12 months ago. “I have always respected him, but perhaps even more now that I have spent time with him and I see the type of character he is.
“He has been spending time with me, so he can see who I am too and has perhaps created a new opinion about me.”

Hamilton is looking for victory number four here at the Hungaroring but admits he is unsure how his Mercedes will perform on the new Pirelli tyres.

He said: “I always seem to be quite strong here and the car is better this year, so I should be in a good position. “You have to be aggressive on this track and I am more aggressive than most so it tends to suit me more.
“But with the new tyres it is going to be difficult to know where we are going to be and they are going to be dominating this weekend.”
