  • 1.“It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
  • 2.“I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one’s head pointed toward the sun, one’s feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death.”
  • 3.“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”
  • 4.“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
  • 5. “After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb.”
  • 6.“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”

  • 8.“If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner.”
  • 9.“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

Britain Set to Be First Country to Allow ‘Three Parent’ Babies.

Britain BRITAIN could become the first country in the world to allow IVF babies to be born with three genetic parents by the end of next year. The landmark decision by the Department of Health - aimed at stopping fatal inherited diseases - has led to a "designer baby" row.
The technique will use DNA from a second "mother" for the first time, allowing the altering of minor genetic strands.
New regulations to fertility law allowing the procedures will be issued for public consultation later this year and then debated in Parliament.
If MPs find them ethically acceptable the first patients could be treated within months. It is envisaged that between five and 10 “three parent” babies would be born each year.
Allowing the currently illegal techniques would mark a turning point because it means, for the first time ever, altering the “germ line” made up of inherited DNA.
Experts point out that only the tiny amount of DNA in a cell’s “battery packs”, the mitochondria, would be changed. DNA in the nucleus, which determines individual characteristics such as facial features and eye colour, would remain intact.
But some critics believe the move would mark a slippery slope leading to “designer babies” and eugenics.
Draft regulations making the UK the first country in the world to offer the treatments to women with a family history of mitochondrial disease will be published later th
is year, the Department of Health said today.

Tanzania tour operators opposed to VAT on tourist services

Value Added Tax (VATSafari operators, through their Arusha-based Tanzania Association of Tour Operators, have decried the government move to slap Value Added Tax (VAT) on tourism products.
“It is high time state organs realized that tourism products, including game viewing in national parks, luxury accommodation in tourists hotels and similar packages should be treated as ‘exports.’ That is why we charge foreigners in dollars,” stated the TATO Executive Secretary, Mr Mustafa Akonaay.

Mr Akonaay said it was wrong to impose VAT on goods meant for export, including tourist services, pointing out that usually tourists do not take anything out of the country; they just come to gaze at wildlife and leave.
The TATO executive warned that VAT on tourism products will make Tanzania a very expensive destination and foreigners may start opting for other countries where prices for safaris are much cheaper.

Tourism-related segments that will be subject to Value Added Tax include tour guided game viewing, water and sea sports, animal and bird watching, accommodation, park fees, tourist chatter services, ground transport or transit services.

For the operators, however, the move will make the Tanzania tourism Industry to be hard hit, making the destination uncompetitive.

The Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism , Mr Lazaro Nyalandu, reacting to the operators’ concern, said here recently that the VAT issue was still open for debate and suggestions from players in the industry.

“Ours is a democratic country and the issue can be tabled for discussions,” said Mr Nyalandu, adding that he was aware that Tanzania was an expensive destination already even before VAT was slammed on the industry.
