Engaging in and Recording Pornographic Acts With a Dog,11 Women,One Foreigner Have Been Arrested in Kenya
Police in Mombasa have three days to wrap up their investigations into a
matter in which eleven women and a foreigner are believed to have been
found engaging in and recording pornographic acts. The eleven women and a
foreigner identified as a Swedish national were arrested in Nyali in
Mombasa and arraigned in court yesterday. It is alleged that they had
engaged in pornographic acts that involved a dog, however this could not
be verified in court. The apartment in which they were found is
suspected to operate as a brothel. Police confiscated various items
including cameras at the scene of the arrest. The Swedish national
arrived in the country as a tourist days ago. The accused are scheduled
to appear in court once again on Monday.
TANZANIA APPROVES MASSIVE URANIUM MINE IN THE SELOUS GAME RESERVE
A Uranium Mine in the Selous: 60 Million Tons of Radioactive Waste in Africa’s Last Great Wilderness?Tanzania’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals has granted a license to mine uranium in the Selous Game Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of “outstanding universal value,” to a major international mining company. According to the website AllAfrica, the move will catapult Tanzania ahead of Canada as the world’s second largest uranium producer.
This comes after the decision last summer by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to allow Tanzania to alter the boundaries of the reserve in order to pave the way for uranium mining.

Nairobi to Host Forum on Mobile Technology and Human Development.
The latest breakthroughs from around the world in the use of mobile technologies for development will be showcased at a forum at Strathmore University, Nairobi, on Wednesday (8 May) Today. Convened by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Motorola Solutions, the roundtable discussion will be attended by leading policy makers, development practitioners, technology manufacturers and local innovators.Now in hands of more than 6 billion people across the developed and developing world – smart phones, tablets and other mobile technologies have become increasingly important channels through which innovative development solutions are being delivered or advanced. Kenya is known for its social innovators who have dynamically adapted mobile applications for development and also for its success with Open Source Software application design and development.
At the event, UNDP and Motorola Solutions will launch an International Network of Social Innovators for Human Development. The new network will connect local innovators across regions with policy and development experts and other stakeholders, and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise on efforts that address development challenges using innovative solutions.
This joint UNDP-Motorola effort seeks to stimulate the large-scale adoption of mobile initiatives for sustainable human development, and to contribute to the dialogue on the post-2015 development agenda.
