Missing American Woman Found Dead in Turkey

A New York City woman who went missing while vacationing alone in Istanbul was found dead yesterday Saturday February 2nd.
Sarai Sierra, a 33-year-old mother of two, was last heard from on Jan. 21, the day she was to fly home. Her disappearance attracted a lot of interest in Turkey, where the disappearance of tourists is rare, and Istanbul police had set up a special unit to find her.
The state-run Anadolu Agency said the body of a woman was discovered Saturday evening near the remnants of ancient city walls and that police later identified it as Sierra's.
The agency said she was found with a head wound and a blanket near her body. She was wearing jeans, a jumper and a jacket, and still had her earrings and a bracelet.
Police reached by The Associated Press refused to comment on the case.

Traces of Pork Found in Halal Food Supplied for Prisoners

Under Islamic law, Muslims are not allowed to eat pork.
They can only eat Halal meat - which is prepared in a certain way.
But tests found pies and pasties described as Halal had traces of pork DNA.
The Ministry of Justice said it had withdrawn the products immediately, while the Justice Minister Jeremy Wright said the Prison Service was investigating "as a matter of urgency".
It comes after traces of horsemeat were found in burgers sold by some UK supermarkets, including Tesco.
"All prisons have been informed about this very regrettable incident and we reported this issue to the Food Standards Agency immediately," a spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said.
"We are taking immediate steps to suspend the contract with the relevant sub-contractor."
Mr Wright said: "This is an absolutely unacceptable situation and one which we regret greatly.
"This must be distressing for those affected and they can be reassured we are doing everything we can to resolve the situation. The Prison Service is investigating this as a matter of urgency."
The company involved has not been named and it is not known where the firm is based.

Twitter Says Hackers Compromise 250K Accounts, User Names, Email Addresses and Encrypted Passwords

By TERRY COLLINS
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The social media giant Twitter acknowledged that it has become the latest victim in a number of cyber-attacks against media companies, saying hackers may have gained access to information on 250,000 of its more than 200 million active users.
The company said a blog post on Friday it detected attempts to gain access to its user data earlier in the week. It shut down one attack moments after it was detected.
But Twitter discovered that the attackers may have stolen user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords belonging to 250,000 users they describe as 'a very small percentage of our users."
Nonetheless, the company reset the pilfered passwords and sent emails advising the affected users.
The online attack comes on the heels of recent hacks into the computer systems of U.S. media and technology companies, including ...

Facebook's Quarterly Profit Drops Sharply

Facebook has increased its revenue from mobile devices with more users now accessing the social network via smartphones and tablets than from personal computers, but its quarterly profits fell sharply compared to last year.
The company on Wednesday reported a $64m profit in the fourth quarter of last year, a steep drop compared with $302m 12 months earlier, while revenue grew 40 percent to $1.585bn.
Facebook said that its number of mobile users, at 680 million, increased by 57 percent from a year ago, surpassing the 618 million average who access the site from computers.
More than 600 million people used Facebook daily - a 28 percent increase from the previous year, with the rise driven by mobile, the company said.
"The big thing for us is we have more than a billion people using our product and we need to make Facebook really good across all devices they use," Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and chief executive, said.
Eden Zoller, principal analyst at Ovum, said that the figures were a boost for a company that took a pounding last year after its stock listing fell flat.
"What stands out from Facebook's results is the centrality of mobile for its service strategy and growth," he said about the social networking site's 23 percent ad revenue which came from users accessing the site from mobile devices.
The company's shares - which fell by half following their debut in May but have since been on a steady climb - fell 3.46 percent to $30.16 in electronic trades.here
