The Zanzibar Doors of Butiama

The Zanzibar door at the Kagera residence, Butiama, at the entrance to the personal library of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere that houses more than 8,000 volumes. A Zanzibar chest is seen on the lower left side.
There are (probably) only two Zanzibar doors in Mara region and they are all found in Butiama, at Mwitongo.
When the war between Idi Amin's Uganda and Tanzania under President Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere ended in 1979, the Tanzanian army chose to build a house for its commander-in-chief as a gift for the victory against Idi Amin's forces.

Over a hilltop, steps from where he was born and is now buried, he pointed to a spot where he wanted the house to be built. We refer to the house as the Kagera residence, using Tanzania's preferred naming of the 1978-9 war with Uganda: the Kagera War.
During the construction of the Kagera residence the then president of Zanzibar, Salmin Amour, donated two Zanzibar doors to the house. One of these doors is located at the house's entrance while the second one is located at the entrance of the personal library of Mwalimu Nyerere that contains more than 8,000 volumes.
The doors are not as elaborately decorated as this one, but they provide a unique view and serve as a permanent link between Butiama and Zanzibar.

Vurugu hizo zimehusisha wakulima na wafugaji wa jamii ya Kimasai kwa upande mmoja wa Morogoro, Mtwara Mikindani wananchi waliizingira nyumba ya Diwani wa Kata ya Mikindani kwa madai ya kuwahifadhi watu wanaodaiwa kuwa washirikina ndani ya nyumba yake, huku Dar es Salaam eneo la Kariakoo, polisi na Wamachinga wakipambamba na Mgambo wa Jiji.

Mkoani Mororgoro mtu mmoja aliyefahamiwa kwa jina la Mohamed Msigara (60) amefariki dunia na wengine kadhaa kujeruhiwa baada ya kutokea vurugu kati ya wakulima na wafugaji Kijiji cha Dumila, wila yani Kilosa, baada ya wafugaji wa Jamii ya Kimasai kuingiza mifugo yao kwenye mashamba ya wakulima yaliyo katika Kitongoji cha Mfulu, Kilosa.

Pamoja na mauaji hayo, wasafiri waliokuwa wakitumia Barabara ya Morogoro – Dodoma, nao walionja machungu ya vurugu hizo, baada ya kukwama kwa saa 5 kutokana na wananchi wa kijiji hicho, kufunga barabara kwa mawe, magogo ya miti na kuchoma magurudumu ya gari.

Wananchi hao walichukua hatua hiyo huku wakisisitiza kutaka kuonana na Mkuu wa Mkoa wa Morogoro, Joel Bendera, ili kumaliza mvutano huo.

Katika vurugu hizo wanakijiji hao walivunja vioo vya madirisha ya baadhi ya nyumba tano za kulala wageni, kuharibu gari dogo aina ya Landcruser pamoja na kupora mali mbalimbali zi nazodaiwa kumilikiwa na wafanyabiashara wa jamii ya Kimasai.

Kabla ya kufanya uharibifu huo saa 2:30 asubuhi, wananchi hao walifanya maandamano sambamba na kusimama katikati ya barabara, hali iliyosababisha polisi kufika eneo hilo kwa ajili ya kuwadhibiti.

Askari wa Kutuliza Ghasia (FFU), walifika eneo la tukio 5:20 asubuhi na kufanikiwa kuwatawanya wananchi hao kwa kutumia mabomu ya machozi, hatimaye kufungua barabara hiyo.

Burger King Drops Burgers from Irish firm Linked with Horse Meat & Dumps Millions of Burgers in Horse Meat Alert

BURGER King is dumping millions of beef-burgers supplied by the horsemeat scandal firm — days after insisting it was unaffected. Managers have been told to box up Whoppers, Angus burgers and patties in a safe area and mark them with an X to ensure they are not sold to customers.
An internal memo also insists they “clean and sanitize” pans and sinks and throw away dishcloths used in the process
The burger scandal broke on Tuesday last week after horse DNA was found at ABP Foods’ Silvercrest meat processing factory in Ireland.
Asda and Tesco immediately withdrew some burgers. But last Thursday Burger King said: “We confirm Burger King will not be withdrawing product. This is because Burger King only sources 100 per cent UK and Irish beef and ensures the integrity of our production line.”

Deadly Prison Riot in Venezuela Leaves 50 People Dead

More than 50 people have been killed in a prison riot in western Venezuela, hospital staff say. The riot was triggered when local media broadcast news that soldiers had been sent to Uribana prison in Barquisimeto to search for weapons, Prisons Minister Iris Varela said.Hospital director Ruy Medina told AFP news agency that some 90 people were injured, mostly from gunshot wounds. The dead are thought to include inmates, guards and prison workers.

The director of Barquisimeto hospital, Ruy Medina, put the death toll at 54, Venezuela's Clarin newspaper reported.Venezuelan Human rights activist Carlos Nieto Palma told BBC Mundo: "What should have been a normal procedure in any prison ended in a clash between National Guard [soldiers] and inmates."
He added that Uribana prison was among the most dangerous in the country.
Opposition leader Henrique Capriles blamed the violence on "incompetent and irresponsible government".Venezuela's prisons are blighted by overcrowding and the proliferation of weapons and drugs. (BBC)
